The Hardware Setup Used: PC Specifications ![]() So we at BlueStacks decided to pick real gamers to run long usage tests on the new BlueStacks 4 to find out how it fared and share the results for the benefit of the larger android gaming community if anything interesting showed up. And you most most definitely don’t want to play on a platform that just fails when used for a longer duration. You don’t want to play on a platform which makes a speed claim that it can’t hold. The same goes for the games/apps we play on the Platform. You won’t want to play on a platform that will just crash over and over seemingly without reason. That’s because those are the most important aspects of BlueStacks performance in general. This is all in good fun but it leaves a question, exactly how reliable is BlueStacks 4 (BS4)? That question is again broken down into the parts mentioned in the title, namely, Stability, Speed and Endurance. Read our detailed Blogpost about BlueStacks 4 performance here. The newly launched BS4 has proven to be a whopping 6x faster than any mobile device on Earth. The speed advantage comes in the fact that even “lower n slower” PC systems are still much stronger compared to many Android devices. You’d be surprised how many find using a keyboard and mouse combination much more comfortable. This allows you to configure your keyboard and/or mouse to be used to simulate taps on the screen. There’s a key mapper built into BlueStacks. Even on a smaller notebook PC, you’ll most likely have a much bigger screen to play on compared to most Android mobile devices. ![]() This allows you to run android apps/games directly on your PC at any given time. Why don’t you give it a try and share your experience with it.As most know, BlueStacks is the leading ‘Android for PC’ gaming platform. So altogether, I am not very impressed with the features but that perhaps is just my opinion. Good thing is that one can request new features and report bug on the github page. I tried for voice/video call and it did not work in Ubuntu. As far as notification is concerned, you’ll hear a ‘ting’ sound but won’t see the desktop notifications in Ubuntu, and I assume the same for other Linux distributions as well. You can have the full Facebook messaging experience where you can chat with individuals, in group. Honestly, it doesn’t offer much except the look and feel of Facebook. How is this unofficial Facebook Messenger app? You should see the messenger app asking for your credentials: Once you have changed the permission, double click to install and run the app. In here, go to permissions tab and tick the box besides Execute option. If you are familiar with basic Linux commands, you can do it in terminal. Else, you can just right click on it to select properties. Normally, you would need to change the permission on this file to make it executable. You’ll see an x-executable file named Messenger. Goo to the extracted folder and based on your system, choose 32 or 64 bit. To download the application, go to the link below: This Facebook Messenger app is available for all major desktop platform i.e. Install Facebook Messenger desktop app in Linux ![]() It looks like Facebook Messenger, isn’t it? So, if this app appeals to you, you might want to give it a try by installing it. You will understand the meaning of ‘Facebook-like’ environment by looking at the screenshot below: It’s a third party app where you can log in with your Facebook account and then chat with your friends in a Facebook-like environment. Let me mention it first that this is not an official Facebook Messenger app. If you are one of them, I have one such app for you. While it is immaterial to many, some people might want a more ‘Facebook-ish’ app. You won’t get the Facebook feel with Pidgin. In desktop Linux, you can use Facebook messaging via Pidgin, but it’s not the same experience as using the actual Facebook Messenger. While this web version is useful in many ways, one might want to have a dedicated desktop app for Facebook Messenger. This enables you to chat distraction free. Facebook Messenger has announced the web version of its messaging service recently.
